From The Principal's Office:
  • We have received many positive comments about the school's new website which contains complete Chinese and English versions. The website continues to be a major source of new families entering the CSSW community.   • Some families have still not picked up the 2003-2004 School Directory. Come to the office to get your personalized copy.
  • Congratulations to the families of PA Vice Chair Samantha Ho and to Grade 2B teacher Sara Haviland who both recently welcomed new infants to their households.

Academic Activities:
  • We welcome Frank Lin who is now teaching the Grade 4A Class as well as the Arts & Crafts 1st period class. Mr. Lin replaces Pao-Hsiu Cheng. In addition, Sophia Shih who has volunteered as an assistant in the 1st Grade class officially joined the staff in January as Assistant Teacher.
  • The results of the school-wide Written Essay Contest for Grades 2 and higher were announced at our New Year's celebration news. They are as follows:
    • Lower grades - 1st Tiana Palmer-Poroner, 2nd Peter Kwauk & Emma Chu, 3rd Danielle Sarns
    • Middle grades - 1st Andrew Wong, 2nd Andrew Lem, 3rd Robert Carlucci
    • Upper grades - 1st Tyler Foote, 2nd Jason Wong, 3rd Emily Lin
    As was the case last year, the best performances in Written Essay and Public Speaking will be eligible for the OCA Chinese School Awards in June 2004.
  • The Dictionary Contest will be held on 3/20/04 for Grades 4 and above. We encourage all students in these eligible grades to participate.
  • Teachers in all academic classes should plan to submit student materials for the 2004 Yearbook by 4/24/04. Your timely preparation and cooperation in this annual effort is greatly appreciated.
Cultural Activities:
  • Our school recently celebrated the Year of the Monkey with a great New Year's Performance in which every class contributed. Afterwards, the luncheon brought out many familiar as well as new faces. Special thanks to PA Chair Samantha Ho and her husband Ricky for arranging the catering by their restaurant Aberdeen. Others who made notable contributions include Laurie Rigelhaupt, Johnny and Summe Chan, Wan-Ping Wu, Christine Pang, Agnes Sarns, Joyce Lim, Mei Yip and Peter Lai, Frances and Daniel Palmer-Porononer, Rose Ng, Ting-Hui Louman, Cindy Chan, Sifu Kwan and his students and many other volunteers. Jenny Kao, CSSW's founder also made a special appearance and contribution.
Parents' Association:
  • The CSSW Annual Membership Meeting will be held on 5/15/04 for the purpose of electing officers of the Parents Association and new members of the Board of Directors. Parents who are interested in becoming candidates for PA officers or Directors should contact the Principal's office.
